1. ثغر الزمان بنجم الدين مبتسم

    ووجهه بدوام العز يتسم

    The dimples of time smile with the morning star of religion

    His face is marked with the seal of eternal glory

  2. أيامه الغر لا زالت مخلدة

    ساعاتها فرص للأجر تغتنم

    His auspicious days that have passed remain immortalized

    Its hours are opportunities for good deeds to be coveted

  3. حرمت عدلاً شهور العام قاطبة

    فليس تعرف منها الأشهر الحرم

    The months of this year are sanctified by justice

    That they do not know among them the forbidden months

  4. أضحى بك النيل محجوجاً ومعتمراً

    كأنما حل فيه الحل والحرم

    The Nile has become restricted and consecrated through you

    As if sanctity and prohibition settled within it

  5. بنان كفك بالإحسان واكفة

    لا تدعي فضلها الأنواء والديم

    Your palms rain kindness and bounty

    Clouds and dew do not claim its superiority

  6. كف تقبلها الأفواه تكرمة

    والركن يومي إليه حين يستلم

    A mouth that you accept is an act of kindness

    And the Holy Precinct turns to it daily when it receives

  7. جاءت بنوك وشمل الدين منتشر

    فقارعوا عنه وهو اليوم منتظم

    Your sons came and the mantle of religion spread

    So they warded it off while today it remains orderly

  8. وما درى أحد من قبل رؤيتهم

    أن الحظوظ بلثم الأرض تقتسم

    And no one knew before seeing them

    That fortunes smile at kissing the ground they tread

  9. نامت عيون الورى في عدل سيرتهم

    كأن يقظتنا في عصرهم حلم

    The eyes of all creation slept amidst the justice of their ways

    As if our wakefulness in their time is but a dream

  10. والناصر ابنك كافي كل معضلة

    إذا الحوادث لم تكشف لها غمم

    Al-Nasir your son suffices every quandary

    If events did not unveil around it fog

  11. أبو المظفر من لولاه ما نهضت

    للنصر قادمة يوماً ولا قدم

    Abu Al-Muzaffar if not for whom would never stand

    Victoriously advancing neither a day nor step

  12. أعز بالباس والإحسان حوزتنا

    فلم يلم بنا خوف ولا عدم

    You have honored our dominion with might and beneficence

    Fear and absence never touched us

  13. وإن شمس بني أيوب ضامنة

    أن لا يروعنا ظلم ولا ظلم

    And the sun of the Ayyubids guarantees

    No injustice or wrong can make us afraid

  14. تبسم الدست من أيوب عن ملك

    تخط عن قدره الأقدار والهمم

    The hand of the Ayyubis smiles at a kingdom

    That fate and aspirations fall short of

  15. متوج بات دين الله معتصماً

    بحبله وبحبل الله يعتصم

    Crowned the protector of God's religion

    Holding fast to its rope and to God's rope

  16. يدنو ويبعد في حالي ندى وردى

    كالدهر ينعم أحياناً وينتقم

    He draws near and withdraws in days of calm and fury

    Like time which grants enjoyment at times and vengeance at others

  17. قادت إليه زمام الملك أربعة

    نصر الهدى والندى والسيف والقلم

    Four things have led the reins of the kingdom to him

    Victory of guidance, brilliance, sword, and pen

  18. وهدمت منه خلق الدهر أربعة

    العلم والحلم والمعروف والكرم

    And four things the people of this age have razed through him

    Knowledge, patience, good deeds, and generosity

  19. وصاحبت منه قول الصدق أربعة

    العهد والوعد والميثاق والذمم

    And four things the words of truth have accompanied him

    Promise, oath, covenant, and pacts

  20. وصدقت مادحيه منه أربعة

    الأصل والفرع والأخلاق والشيم

    And four things have proven true his eulogizers

    Lineage, branch, morals, and traits

  21. فالجور والبخل والإلحاد منصدع

    والعدل والجود والإيمان ملتئم

    So injustice and stinginess and unbelief have cracked

    While justice and munificence and faith are united

  22. يا خير معتصب بالتاج منتصب

    ترضى المكارم عن يوميه والأمم

    O best invested with the crown risen

    Deeds of nobility pleased with his days and eras

  23. هل أنت مصغ إلى دعوى أحبرها

    إلى علاك فأنت الخصم والحكم

    Will you listen to my case which I plead

    To your sublime while you are the opponent and judge?

  24. ما زال في الثغر لي رزق سحائبه

    تهمي على روض آمالي وتنسجم

    The rain clouds of your lips haven’t ceased to bestow upon me

    To pour upon the garden of my hopes in harmony

  25. حتى ملكت فلا نجم أسير به

    إلى علاك ولا نار ولا علم

    Until I have reigned with no star made captive by it

    To your sublimity, nor sun or flags

  26. واليوم خمسة أعوام محرمة

    لم يسقني لك لا طل ولا ديم

    And today five forbidden years have passed

    Not quenching me from you a request or shower

  27. وكان لي من ملوك النيل قبلكم

    مكانة عرفتها العرب والعجم

    I used to have a status known to Arabs and non-Arabs

    Among the kings of the Nile before yours

  28. وكان بيني وبين القوم ملحمة

    في حربها ألسن الأديان تختصم

    And I had an epic with the people

    In battle split between faiths disputing

  29. وما تزال إلى داري عوارفهم

    تمشي إلى بابها الإكرام والنعم

    Their cordial ties haven’t ceased to walk

    To my abode which noble deeds and boons hail

  30. تركت قصدك لما قيل أنك لا

    تجود إلا على من مسه العدم

    I refrained from seeking you due to what was said

    That you only grant those touched by distress

  31. ولست بالرجل المجهول موضعه

    ولا لنزر من الإحسان أغتنم

    I am not a man whose place is obscure

    Nor do I covet crumbs of beneficence

  32. ولا إلى صدقات المال أطلبها

    ولا عمى مس أعضائي ولا صمم

    I do not seek donations of wealth

    Not blind of organs nor deaf and numb

  33. وإنما أنا ضيف للملوك ولي

    دون الضيوف لسان ناطق وفم

    I am the guest of royalty and my tongue imparting

    and eloquent mouth gift me beyond guests

  34. وأنت أكرم من يمشي على قدم

    والناس عنك فقد أثنوا بما علموا

    While you are the noblest of those who tread on this earth

    Of you, people indeed have praised what they knew

  35. وما التواتر مما أستريب به

    حاشا لقاعدة الإجماع تنخرم

    Numerous reports I do not doubt

    Far be it that the basis of consensus be dispelled

  36. إسكندرية ثغر أنت مالكه

    والنار من غرماني فيه تضطرم

    You own Alexandria whose wounds within kindle

    Take revenge upon me through it if you will

  37. فامنن ووقع بنصف الألف أقسمها

    فيهم فمالك بين الناس ينقسم

    So be gracious, allot half a thousand riyals dividing it

    Among them, while you among people have been split into halves

  38. واغرم فإن الملوك الصيد عادتهم

    إذا رأوا عاجزاً عن مغرم غرموا

    And show obligingness, for hunting is the nature of kings

    When seeing someone disabled by debt, they race with largesse

  39. ومن رجاك لنزر يستعين به

    فحكمتي في ندى كفيك تحتكم

    As for whoever hoped from you for an insignificant gift

    Then my judgement in your palm fairness arbitrates

  40. أنت المسيح وأحوالي بها سقم

    فامنن بمعجزة يبرى بهم السقم

    You are the Christ while my condition by ailments reeks

    So be gracious and cure it with a miraculous feat

  41. فلو مدحت زماني وهو عبدكم

    بمدحكم لم يزرني الشيب والهرم

    And if I praised my time though being your servant

    By praising you neither would old age or ruins make me weak

  42. لهفي على أسد الدين الهمام وكم

    جرت عليه دموع العين وهي دم

    My passion for Asad al-Din the August while tears

    Have flowed from my eyes for him being blood

  43. لو عاش لي لم أقم هذا المقام ولا

    أذلني الدين والأطفال والحرم

    If he lived, I wouldn't have stood in this place

    Nor would debt and children and family humiliate me

  44. قد كان يرفعني في صدر مجلسه ال

    عالي ويبسط أنسي حين أحتشم

    He would elevate me in his lofty presence whenever I feel shy

    He knew my worth and they mentioned

  45. وكان يعرف مقداري وقد ذكروا

    أن المعارف في أهل النهى ذمم

    That acquaintances in the niche of the elite are blemishes

    Say to my merit preserved for his service

  46. فقل لفضلي يحفظني لخدمته

    فربما تحفظ الأجداث والرمم

    That times and ruins are often preserved

    And look upon me through his eyes for between you

  47. وانظر إلي بعينيه فبينكما

    في كل بر وفعل صالح رحم

    In righteousness and good deeds exists a womb
