1. يا من أدل يبسط العذر من جارا

    ومد سبقاً إلى العلياء من جارى

    O you who graciously offers excuses to a neighbor,

    And who hastily extends a hand to the noblest of men,

  2. رتب على الباب إنساناً له أدب

    وعشرة يلتقي بالبشر من زارا

    Arrange for a courteous and refined doorman

    Who meets people with kindness when they come to visit.

  3. ومجلباً خالياً باسم الجلوس ولا

    يرى علينا إذا جئناه إنكارا

    And a vacant sitting room—but do not let

    Him see any reproach from us when we arrive.

  4. فلي ثلاثة أيام أعود على الدهليز

    أبسط عند الناس أعذارا

    For three days I will come back to the porch

    To offer my apologies to the people.

  5. وللدهاليز أرباب الظلامة لا

    أهل الكرامة إجلالاً وإقدارا

    But porches are for those who love the darkness, not
