1. فؤاد بجمر الشوق والوجد يحرق

    أراق كرى الأجفان فهو مؤرق

    My heart is burning with longing and passion

    My eyelids shed copious tears and I cannot rest

  2. دع العين تغرق بالمدامع خده

    فخاطره في لجة الوجد مغرق

    Let your eyes overflow with tears on your cheek

    For his thoughts are lost in the sea of passion

  3. وفي خد ذات الخال حمرة جمرة

    على نارها ماء الصبا يترقرق

    On the cheek of the one with the beauty mark, a red hot ember

    Over which the morning dew drops glisten

  4. أسيرة حجيلها على أي مذهب

    أبيت أسير القلب والجسم مطلق

    An untamed gazelle, following whatever creed

    My heart and body remain captive, though I walk free

  5. ولم أدر لما زار طيفك في الكرى

    أغار علينا أم أغار التفرق

    And I know not why your phantom visits my mind

    Does it envy what we share or lament our separation?

  6. ذكرت مناط العقد منك بأورق

    على ورقات الغصن وهو مطوق

    I recalled your slender waist with the belt of twisted silk

    On the branches, clasped with rings

  7. يميل إذا مال النسيم كأنما

    أدير عليه البابلي المعتق

    Swaying when the breeze blows as if

    The gilded belt was wrapped around it

  8. بكى وهو ذو إلف قريب وبيننا

    وبينك بون لا يرام وسملق

    It weeps though we were intimate friends

    While between you and I lies a gulf no effort can bridge

  9. مجاهل ما فيها من الطرق معلم

    وعذراء لا يمسي لها الركب يطرق

    An unknown land with paths left unmarked

    And an untouched meadow no caravan dares tread

  10. ركبنا إلى نيل الغنى كاهل العنا

    على سعة الأرزاق والرزق ضيق

    We embarked to attain wealth, bearing hardship

    Despite abundant sustenance, my share was so slight

  11. عجبت من الأرزاق أمتص ثمدها

    وتروى بصافيها رجال وتغرق

    I'm astonished that sustenance evades me

    Quenching others, leaving me drowned

  12. وما تجهل الأيام أن جمالها

    وزينتها في منطقي حين أنطق

    The days are unaware that my charm and beauty

    Lie in my speech, when I recite poetry

  13. ولكن أظن الرزق يهوى تحرقي

    عليه وطيب العود حين يحرق

    But I think sustenance is attracted to your burning desire

    And fine incense, when lit, smells sweet

  14. وأحسب أن الجود إما حكاية

    مضى أهلها أو صورة ليس تخلق

    I believe generosity is either a fable

    Whose people have passed or a facade with no heart

  15. وإلا فما بالي كسدت وفي فمي

    معادن در سوقها الدهر ينفق

    Else why are my coffers now empty though my mouth

    Was a mine of pearls spent freely in the market

  16. لعل بني أيوب إن علموا بما

    تظلمت منه أن يرقوا ويشفقوا

    Perhaps if the Ayyubids knew of the wrong I suffer

    They would show mercy and compassion

  17. وإن ينقذوني من تملك عبدهم

    وخادمهم وهو الزمان ويعتقوا

    And deliver me from servitude to their subject

    And servant, who is time, setting me free

  18. ملوك حموا سرب الهدى بعزائم

    بها بفتح الله البلاد ويغلق

    Kings who protected the caravan of truth with resolve

    By which Allah opened lands and closed others

  19. غزو عقر دار المشركين بغزوة

    جهاراً وطرف الشرك خزيان مطرق

    Raiding the nest of the pagans with a public invasion

    While the banner of polytheism falls, hammered down

  20. وزاروا مصلى عسقلان بأرعن

    يفيض إناء البر منه ويفهق

    And visiting the Masjid of Ascalon proudly

    Its vessel of righteousness overflowing

  21. وكانت على ما شاهد الناس قبلكم

    طرائق من شوك القنا ليس تطرق

    Before you, the paths were thickets of thorns

    No caravan would dare tread or take that road

  22. وما عصمتهم منك إلا معاقل

    تأنوا على تحصينها وتأنقوا

    And only fortresses protected them from you

    Carefully fortified, though it took great effort

  23. جلبت لهم من سورة الحرب ما التقى

    بوادره سور عليهم وخندق

    You brought them war's tumult, meeting their walls

    With trenches dug around, besieging them

  24. وأخربت من أعمالهم كل عامر

    يمر به طيف الخيال فيفرق

    And you destroyed their every standing structure

    So that imagination itself shuns the ruins

  25. أضفت إلى أجر الجهاد زيارة ال

    خليل فأبشر أنت غاز موفق

    To the reward of jihad, you added a visit

    To the Friend, glad tidings to you, blessed fighter

  26. وهيجت للبيت المقدس لوعة

    يطول بها منه إليك التشوق

    You stirred for the Holy House a painful longing

    By which desire for it flows constantly to you

  27. تنشق من ملقاك أعطر نفحة

    تطيب على قلب الهدى حين تنشق

    The sweetest scent exudes from your abode

    Gladdening the heart of piety when you appear

  28. وغزوك هذا معلم نحو فتحه

    قريباً وإلا رائد ومطرق

    This raid signals an imminent conquest

    Or at least a precursor, breaking the seal

  29. هو البيت إن تفتحه والله فاعل

    فما بعده باب من الشام يغلق

    It is the House - when you liberate it, God willing

    No door to Syria thereafter will stay barred

  30. تركت قلوب المشركين خوافقاً

    وبات لواء النصر فوقك يخفق

    You left the pagans' hearts anxious and fearful

    While the flag of victory flutters over your head

  31. لئن سكن الإسلام جأشاً فإنه

    بما قد تركتم خاطر الكفر يقلق

    If Islam was restless, it now calms

    For you have unsettled the mind of unbelief

  32. سمت بصلاح الدين سنة أحمد

    فطائرها فوق السماك محلق

    You followed in Salah al-Din's auspicious path

    Soaring high above the heavens

  33. وطلعت مولود كريم تطلعت

    إليه عيون للممالك ترمق

    And you were born a noble star looked upon

    By the hopeful eyes of all the kingdoms

  34. لك الخير قد طال انتظاري وأطلقت

    لغيري أرزاق ورزقي معوق

    Goodness to you, long have I waited

    While others gained sustenance, mine was held back

  35. كأنك لم يسمع بجودك مغرب

    ولم يتحدث عن عطائك مشرق

    As if news of your generosity never reached the West

    Or tales of your giving, the East

  36. وإني من تأريخ أيامك التي

    بها سابق التأريخ يمحى ويمحق

    Yet I know from the dating of your days

    The calendar itself is erased and annulled

  37. صدقتك فيما قلت أو أنا قائل

    بأنك خير الناس والصدق أوثق

    I have believed what you said or I state

    You are the best of people, and truth is unshakable

  38. وحسبي أن أنهي إليك وأنتهي

    وأحسن من ظني وأنت تحقق

    Enough that I turn my hopes to you and in you place my trust

    May my thoughts of you surpass hope and be fulfilled
