    محكولة من الكحل

    Were it not for eyelids tinged with kohl

    And moments that have not ceased

  2. ولحظات لم تزل

    أرمى نبالاً من ثعل

    I would have shot arrows of complaint

    Whose sting is sweeter than honey's taste

  3. وبرد رضابه

    ألذ من طعم العسل

    It blends into his roses

    From a lofty and generous place

  4. يظما إلى وروده

    من عل منه ونهل

    Whenever it sees me it cuts short

    If my pride plays or jokes

  5. لما وصلت قاطعاً

    إذا رأى جدي هزل

    Contrary, if it harbored

    Estrangement I would reconcile

  6. مخالف لو أنه

    أضمر هجري لوصل

    And I bend, compliant

    Swaying whenever I stand tall

  7. وأغيد منعم

    يميل كلما اعتدل

    Its branch sways gently

    When the north wind blows

  8. يهتز غصن قده

    ليناً إذا ارتج الكفل

    It bows its head in shyness

    When my glance falls upon it

  9. غر إذا جمشته

    أطرق من فرط الخجل

    A petulant gazelle

    Refusing to be seduced

  10. أريعن مدلل

    غزيل يأبى الغزل

    I asked for a kiss

    From its lips but it did not respond

  11. سألته في قبلة

    من ثغره فما فعل

    I was content to see its liveliness

    Mixed with laziness

  12. راضته لي مشمولة

    تري النشاط بالكسل

    Until it came to me humbled

    Intoxicated and infatuated

  13. حتى أتاني صاغراً

    يحدوه سكر وثمل

    It ended without thanks

    That guarded one was degraded

  14. أمسى بغير شكره

    ذاك المصون يبتذل

    And spent the night confused

    Between its necklace and earring

  15. وبات بين عقده

    وبين قرطه جدل

    I almost erased sorrow

    From its lips with a kiss

  16. وكدت أمحو لعساً

    في شفتيه بالقبل

    I sacrifice it, that smile

    I kiss but cannot possess

  17. فديته من مبسم

    ألثمه فلا أمل

    It is like fingers

    For Islam's eternal glory

  18. كأنه أنامل

    لمجد الإسلام الأجل

    Its virtues are always

    Laughing in the face of hope

  19. معروفهن أبداً

    يضحك في وجه الأمل

    Al-Nasir bin Al-Salih is the guide

    Of praise, most high

  20. الناصر بن الصالح اله

    ادي من المدح أجل

    But praising him

    Is the truest work

  21. لكن يعد مدحه

    للصدق من خير العمل

    With his name we reclaim

    The exalted, when he speaks, justice descends

  22. من نستعيد باسمه الع

    الي إذا خطب نزل

    His youth shines

    With the light of noble youth

  23. أبلج من شبابه

    نور الشباب المقتبل

    Bringing in beginnings joy and resolve

    With him kingship is stolen

  24. يبدو به في غرة الدني

    ا سرور وجدل

    And states take pride

    His perfection paid no heed

  25. ويسرق الملك به

    أجلى وتفخر الدول

    To any flaw

    His glorious name is untouched

  26. لم يلتفت كماله

    لعلة من العلل

    By talk of "if only" or "perhaps"

    He never sought

  27. نزه سمع مجده

    عن ذكر ليت ولعل

    Honor that was forbidden

    Or saw a grace

  28. ما رام قط شرفاً

    ممنعاً إلا حصل

    Abandoned without reaching it

    One of such traits

  29. ولا رأى مكرمة

    مهجورة إلا وصل

    In life is proverbial

    His lineage is pure

  30. ذو شيم بمثلها

    في الدهر يضرب المثل

    The last and the first

    His manners noble

  31. طاهرة أعراقه

    آخرهن والأول

    Whether earnest or jesting

    His ambition is lofty

  32. كريمة أخلاقه

    إن جد فيها وهزل

    Below it, Saturn's star

    A lion, pouring rain, dew

  33. رفيعة همته

    من دونها نجم زحل

    Whether the day is long or brief

    No limit binds his generosity

  34. ليث ردى غيث ندى

    إن طال يوماً أو بذل

    No drought makes it wither

    The light of his honesty shines

  35. ما من سطاه وعطا

    ه ثمد ولا وشل

    If he speaks or acts

    His traits are sanctified

  36. يشرق نور صدقه

    إن قال قولاً أو فعل

    Beyond cravenness or stinginess

    And his heights

  37. تقدست أوصافه

    عن ذكر جبن أو بخل

    Have become his exclusive praise

    His call dictates to my pen

  38. وأصبحت علياؤه

    مديحها لا ينتحل

    While virtue is virtue's reward

    His hand of authority

  39. نداه يملي قلمي

    والفضل فضل من أمل

    Owes nothing to cunning or deceit

    If it stabs, there is no burning

  40. له يد سلطانها

    بحولها لا بالحيل

    If it throws, no paralysis

    Or writes, no errors

  41. إن طعنت فلا شوى

    وإن رمت فلا شلل

    No stumbling in its script

    The shapes of its letters

  42. أو كتبت فلا خطا

    في خطها ولا خطل

    Fairer than black notation

    Like sparks among embers

  43. كتابة حروفها

    أحسن من سود المقل

    Or embroidery on robes

    If the son of Maqlah tried

  44. كطرر في غرر

    أو طرز على حلل

    He would be told "you are the lesser"

    His field is a refuge

  45. لو رام ابن مقلة

    قالت له أنت أقل

    For all who travel and settle

    His doors a shelter

  46. ساحته منتجع

    لكل من سار وحل

    When slippers slip and feet stumble

    How many fallen has he aided

  47. أبوابه ملاذ من

    زلت به النعل وزل

    Whether free or imprisoned

    And hosts he made safe

  48. كم مهجة أغاثها

    لمطلق ومعتقل

    After fear and dread

    Saving them through his grace

  49. ومعشر آمنهم

    من بعد خوف ووجل

    Interceding for all who asked

    Freeing with his charity

  50. خلصهم بجاهه

    مشفعاً فيما سأل

    The mighty and the lowly

    Were they not bound to him

  51. أعتق باصطناعه

    من عز منهم ثم ذل

    The sword of separation would have struck

    He freed them and they became

  52. لولا اعتلاقهم به

    لسبق السيف العذل

    Each relying on his bounty

    Oh ignorant one, ask me and others

  53. أعتقهم ثم غدا

    كل على نداه كل

    About his virtue, do not question

    I visited him and gained from

  54. يا جاهلاً لفضله

    سلني وغيري لا تسل

    His gifts what others never attained

    The train of his overflowing grace

  55. قد زرته فنلت من

    إنعامه ما لم ينل

    Enfolded and embraced me

    It is enough that the witness

  56. والتف ذيل فضله الض

    افي علي واشتمل

    Considers me one of the intimates

    My champion, you are the one

  57. حسبي أن يخالني ال

    رائي له من الخول

    Who aids me against those who abandoned me

    Oh son of the valiant raids

  58. يا ناصري أنت الذي

    ينصرني ممن خذل

    Son of the pillows and carpets

    Son of the one who adorned guidance

  59. يا ابن أبي الغارات بل

    يا ابن المواضي والأسل

    And finery, joy of separation

    Whose ways

  60. يا ابن الذي زان الهدى

    والحلي زينة العطل

    In every land are followed

    Whose views united

  61. وأصبحت رسومه

    في كل قطر تمتثل

    Islam in its covenant and dissolution

    Before praising you

  62. وجملت آراؤه ال

    إسلام في عقد وحل

    I was content with little worth

    And accepted excuses from people

  63. قد كنت قبل مدحكم

    أرضى من الوبل بطل

    When the date harvest was lean

    Composing petty verse for them

  64. وأقبل العذر من الن

    اس إذا الخل أخل

    In thanks for the meagerest gift

    But today through you I have become

  65. وأنظم الدر لهم

    شكراً على النزر الأقل

    Dearer than pounding and shaking

    I sang your name in praise

  66. فاليوم أصبحت بكم

    أعز من دق وجل

    After it had gone unsung

    I exalted it after it had been

  67. نوهتم باسم الثنا

    من بعد ما كان خمل

    Debased and common

    Its garb has become new

  68. أعليتموه بعدما

    كان الحضيض المبتذل

    After it was worn and frayed

    And the eye of guidance saw

  69. أمسى جديداً ثوبه

    من بعد ما كان سمل

    In our time none to replace you

  70. ولا رأت عين الهدى

    في دهرنا لكم بدل
