إن قصر الشكر فهب عذراً

تجاوزت نعمتك الشكرا

If my gratitude falls short, forgive me,

Your blessings have exceeded all thanks.

ليست مكافاتك في قدرتي

ما أنزل الشعر عن الشعرى

Your rewards are beyond my capability,

Poetry cannot reach such lofty heights.

جئت بها بيضاء تجلو الصدا

كالصبح أهدى للدجى فجرا

I came with a bright dawn that dispels the gloom,

Like the morning it brings light to the darkness.

إن قلت كشفت بها غمة

فقل وأسبلت بها سترا

If I say it has lifted sorrow,

Then say it has clothed me in honor.

مثلك يا عبد الرحيم اهتدى

إلى المعالي مسلكاً وعرا

You, Abdel Rahim, found the path

To glory, though the way was rough.

ما مطلبي سهل ولكنه

يصغر في همتك الكبرى

My request is simple though to your great spirit,

It may seem small and petty.

يا أبيض الوجه ويا طاهر العرض

ويا أعلى الورى قدرا

O fair of face, O pure of honor,

O highest of all in rank,

عرفني جودك طعم الغنى

حتى غدا يستطرف الفقرا

Your kindness has let me taste riches,

That poverty now seems sweet.
