1. لك الحسب الباقي على عقب الدهر

    بل الشرف الراقي على قمة النسر

    You have lasting honor throughout time

    And sublime nobility atop the eagle's summit

  2. كذا فليكن سعي الملوك إذا سعت

    بها الهمم العليا إلى شرف الذكر

    Thus should the striving of kings be when

    Lofty ambitions aspire to the glory of renown

  3. نهضتم بأعباء الوزارة نهضة

    أقلتم بها الأقدام من ذلة العثر

    You took on the burdens of authority with dedication

    Lessening them so feet would not stumble

  4. كشفتم عن الإقليم غمته كما

    كشفتم بأنوار الغنى ظلمة الفقر

    You unveiled the gloom over the region

    As you unveiled with the lights of wealth the darkness of poverty

  5. حميتم من الإفرنج سرب خلافة

    جريتم بها مجرى الأمان من الذعر

    You protected the flock of the Caliphate from the Franks

    Leading it safely from panic

  6. ولما استعان ابن النبي بنصركم

    ودائرة الأنصار أضيق من شبر

    And when the Prophet's son sought your aid

    While the circle of supporters was tighter than a handspan

  7. جلبتم إليه النصر أوساً و خزرجاً

    وما اشتقت الأنصار إلا من النصر

    You brought him victory in crowds from Aus and Khazraj

    For victory derives its name from the word "support"

  8. كتائب من جيرون منها أواخر

    وأولها في الريف من شاطئي مصر

    Legions from Jurjan, the latecomers among them

    At the frontier from the banks of Egypt

  9. طلعتم فأطلعتم كواكب نصرة

    أضاءت وكان الدين ليلاً بلا فجر

    You rose up, rising with you stars of victory

    Illuminating while religion was a moonless night

  10. كواكب تزري بالنجوم لأنها

    يسرى بها ليل الهموم وما تسري

    Stars that outshine the celestial bodies for

    The night of worries passes over them without effect

  11. وآبت إليكم يا بن أيوب دولة

    تراسلكم في كل يوم مع السفر

    And to you, O Ayyubid, the state inclined

    Sending you missives daily along with envoys

  12. وقرت بكم عين لنا وجوانح

    أعيضت ببرد الوصل عن حرقة الهجر

    Our eyes now rest on you, and hearts

    Once frozen from estrangement now melt with the warmth of reunion

  13. وألقابكم في الدين مثل فعالكم

    تنم بها الأخبار عن كرم الخبر

    Your titles in religion match your deeds

    As fame thereby conveys your generosity

  14. لها أسد منكم ونجم ومنكم

    صلاح وسيف إن ذا غاية الفجر

    You have among you a lion, a star, and

    Salah ad-Din - truly the zenith of dawn

  15. حمى الله منكم عزمة أسدية

    فككتم بها الإسلام من ربقة الكفر

    God protected the lionhearted resolve among you

    Which undid Islam's shackling by unbelief

  16. لئن نصبوا في البر جسراً فإنكم

    عبرتم ببحر من حديد على الجسر

    If they erected a bridge across the land

    You crossed a sea of iron over that bridge

  17. طريق تقارعتم عليها مع العدى

    ففزتم بها والصخر يقرع بالصخر

    A path you battled the enemy over

    Victorious, though rock clashes against rock

  18. أخذتم على الأفرنج كل ثنية

    وقلتم لأيدي الخيل مري على مري

    You seized from the Franks every mountain pass

    Saying to the hooves of horses: "Go from pasture to pasture!"

  19. وأزعجه من مصر خوف يلزه

    كما لُزَّ مهزوم من الليل بالفجر

    His fear convulsed and drove him from Egypt

    As the routed are convulsed by dawn from night

  20. وكم وقعة عذراء لما فضضتها

    بسيفك لم تترك لغيرك من عذر

    How many virgin battles, whose seals

    Were broken by your sword, leaving no other the privilege

  21. ورعت بأطراف اليراعين قلب من

    تفرخ في أيامه بيضة الغدر

    You warded off the heart of one whose days

    Hatched the egg of betrayal against the sheepfolds

  22. كتائب تنفي الهم عن مستقره

    وكتب تزيل الهم عن موطن الفكر

    Legions that banish sorrow from its abode

    And writings that banish sorrow from the mind's home

  23. إذا نشرت أعلامها وعلومها

    ثنت أمل المغرور طياً على غر

    When they unfurl their banners and standards

    They bend the hopes of the arrogant utterly

  24. وأصبحت كالآساد في الجد والجدى

    فناهيك من ماء نمير ومن نمر

    Becoming like lions in resolve and earnest

    So cease this talk of crocodiles and tigers!

  25. وصغرت مقدار الخطايا بقدرة

    يغور بصافي حلمها وغر الصدر

    Vices seem trivial by your power

    Whose clarity of forbearance delights the breast

  26. إذا ماتت الأحقاد يوماً بحلمكم

    فليس لها غير التجاوز من قبر

    If enmities should die one day through your forbearance

    Then they have no recourse but pardon from the grave

  27. وأيديكم بالبأس كاسرة العدى

    ولكنها بالجود جابرة الكسر

    Your hands crush the enemy with might

    Yet heal the broken with kindness

  28. أبوك الذي أضحى ذخيرة مجدكم

    وأنت لن خير النفائس والذخر

    Your father who was the stockpile of your glory

    While you are the best of treasures and riches

  29. ومن كنت معروفاً له فاستفزه

    بمثلك تيه فهو في أوسع العذر

    If you granted someone favor, yet he is ungrateful

    Then how can he be blamed, being pushed beyond limit?

  30. فكيف وقد أصبحت نار زناده

    وإلا كنوز البدر في شبه البدر

    For how, when you have become the flint's fire

    Can he be other than the moon's treasure at its fullest?

  31. توقره وسط الندي كرامة

    وتحمل عنه ما يؤود من الوقر

    You honor him amidst companions with courtesy

    And carry what would trouble him of etiquette

  32. وتخلفه سلماً وحرباً خلافة

    تؤلف أضداداً من الماء والجمر

    You make him your deputy in peace and war

    Reconciling opposites of water and ember

  33. وكم قمت في بأس وجود ورتبة

    بما سره في الخطب والدست والثغر

    How often you stood by resolve, munificence, and rank

    Pleasing him with words, in gifts, and with your countenance

  34. ولو أنطق الله الجمادات لم تقم

    لنعمتكم بالمستحق من الشكر

    If God granted speech to inanimate things

    They could not thank you enough for your bounty

  35. يد لا يقوم المسلمون بشكرها

    لكم آل أيوب إلى آخر الدهر

    A hand the Muslims can never thank enough

    O Ayyubids, until the end of time

  36. لكم أمن الرحمن أعظم يثرب

    وأمن أركان البنية والحجر

    You who are the greatest security from Merciful God

    And security for the pillars of construction and stone

  37. ولو رجعت مصر إلى الكفر لانطوى

    بساط الهدى من ساحل البر والبحر

    If Egypt returned to unbelief, the carpet of guidance

    Would be folded from its shores and seas

  38. ولكن شددتم أزره بوزارة

    غدا لفظها يشتق من شدة الوزر

    But you bolstered its pillars with rule

    Where uttering its name derives from "burden-bearing"

  39. وما بقيت في الشرك إلا بقية

    تتممها بالبيض والأسل السمر

    Nothing of polytheism remains but remnants

    To perfect them with eggs and marble columns

  40. وعند تمام الفتح آتي مهنئاً

    ومستلماً أجر الكهانة والزجر

    And upon the conquest's completion I will come

    Congratulating and collecting my earnings from soothsaying and warning

  41. ومخترعاً فيكم عيون قصائد

    هي العنبر الشحري أو نفثة الشحر

    And composing for you the gazelles of poems

    That are fragrant ambergris or wafts of perfume

  42. قصائد ما فيها من الحشو لفظة

    بلى حشوها من ذكركم عبق النشر

    Poems without any padding words

    Rather, their stuffing is your fragrant mention

  43. تعلمت الإحسان من حسناتكم

    فواحدة منها تقوم بالعشر

    I learned beneficence from your virtues

    Where one of them equals ten

  44. ولو لم أكن عبداً وهن إماؤكم

    ترافع فكري وادعى حرمة الصهر

    If I were not your servant, and the weak among your bondmaids

    My thoughts would claim the sanctity of kinship

  45. ولولا اعتقادي أن مدحك قربة

    أرجي به نيل المثوبة والأجر

    If I did not believe praising you is an act of devotion

    Through which I hope to gain reward and recompense

  46. لما قلت شعراً بعد إعفاء خاطري

    ولي سنوات منذ تبت عن الشعر

    I would not have spoken poetry after setting my mind free

    When I have years since repenting from poetry

  47. وجائزتي تسهيل أمري عليكم

    وملقاكم لي بالطلاقة والبشر

    My reward is your smoothing my course

    And your meeting me with amiability and glad tidings
