    غر القوافي وتستنقى وتنتخب

    In moments like these, words flow freely

    Choosing the finest rhymes with ease

  2. هذا المقام الذي لولا كرامته

    ما أشرفت في السماء السبعة الشهب

    This honored stance, were it not for its nobility

    No shooting stars would grace the seven heavens

  3. هذا المقام الذي لولا أوامره

    لم يشرف البيت والأستار والحجب

    This stance, were it not for its commands

    Neither home nor veil would have honor

  4. نور البنوة في ذا الدست مؤتلق

    بالناظرين ونار العزم تلتهب

    The light of sonship radiates herein

    Dazzling all who look, and willpower burns like fire

  5. تمسي وتصبح في إيوانه أبداً

    بيض المنى والمنايا السود تصطخب

    Eternal in this court, dreams and nightmares mingle

    White wishes and dark sorrows churn

  6. في صدره فائز بالنصر محتجب

    بنوره وبتاج العز معتصب

    In his chest, a victor with triumph hidden

    With his light and crown of glory fixed

  7. مبارك الوجه ميمون نقيبته

    تجلى بطلعة الأحداث والنوب

    Blessed is his face, auspicious his leadership

    Revealed in the rising of eras and times

  8. انظر إلى وجهه تنظر إمام هدى

    خير الورى رضي الأملاك أم غضبوا

    Look upon his face, you look upon a guiding imam

    The best of mortals, pleasing angel or making them wrathful

  9. لا يستوي وملوك الأرض في شرف

    إلا كما يتساوى الصفر والذهب

    He cannot equal the kings of earth in nobility

    Except as zero equals gold

  10. من معشر شابت الدنيا ومجدهم

    غض وأثوابه فضفاضة قشب

    Of a people whose glory the world has aged

    And their clothes are loose and frayed

  11. لولا الصلاة عليكم ما استجيب لمن

    يدعو ولا رفعت عن دعوة حجب

    Without blessings upon you, none who prays is answered

    Nor a call lifted above the veil

  12. وأنتم العروة الوثقى فلا انفصمت

    وحبكم في دخول الجنة السبب

    You are the firmest handhold, never broken

    And loving you is reason to enter Heaven

  13. وفي مدائحكم فخر لمادحكم

    وفي ولائكم ذخر ومنقلب

    Boasting of praising you brings pride to the praiser

    And loyalty to you brings provision and return

  14. مما كسا المدح فخراً وطيب ذكركم

    والصدق يشرق مهما أظلم الكذب

    What garments praise with pride and perfumes your name

    As sincerity shines however dense the lies

  15. مناقب كالنجوم الزهر قد ملئت

    بحسن أوافها الأسماع والكتب

    Virtues like brilliant stars have filled

    Ears and books with the beauty of their rhythms

  16. جاءت لها سور القرآن مادحة

    فما عسى يتعاطى الشعر والخطب

    The verses of Quran came singing your praise

    What more can poetry and prose accomplish?

  17. لله في أهل هذا القصر سابقة

    من الإرادة من أسرارها عجب

    To the people of this palace Allah has granted

    Wonders of purpose from his mysteries

  18. لما أراد ابن باديس إزالتهم

    والناصرون لأنوار الهدى غيب

    When Ibn Badis wanted to destroy them

    And the supporters of the light of guidance vanished

  19. أبت عليهم يد آلية ويد

    تعزى إلى آل رزيك وتنتسب

    The hand of the Almighty refused him

    A hand attributed to the line of your ancestors

  20. لولا الوزير أبو الغارات ما خفقت

    للنصر في القصر رايات ولا عذب

    Without Abu al-Gharat the vizier no banners

    Of victory waved in the palace, no swords were sharpened

  21. ولا اعتزى لعلي عند نازلة

    من القبيلين لا عجم ولا عرب

    Nor was Ali aided in the crisis

    Of non-Arab and Arab tribes

  22. لما جلبت إليه الخيل مقربة

    لم يحمه منك إلا الشحط والهرب

    When the horses were brought close to him

    Nothing protected him but fleeing and escape

  23. إضافة الملك لما جئت زائره

    كرامة ما لها إلا الظبا سبب

    The king's aggression when you came to visit him

    Was a shame no gazelle's stride could warrant

  24. ولى ويا بئس ما أولى مواليه

    ولو تعاينتما لم ينجه الهرب

    He assumed power, oh what wretched power for his loyalists

    And had you met, fleeing could not have saved him

  25. وأيد الله دين الحق منك بذي

    يد لها في الوغى التأييد والغلب

    And God supported the religion of truth through you

    With a hand whose might and conquest cannot be doubted

  26. أغنته أفعاله عن فخره بعلى

    أست قواعدها آباؤه النجب

    His deeds have made him not need to boast of Ali

    Though his noble fathers established its foundations

  27. والمرء من هم فاستغنى بهمته

    عما بناه له جد مضى وأب

    And a man whose worries have made him self-sufficient

    Has no need of what his late father and forebears built

  28. حمى حريم المعالي عزمه فغدت

    أكنافه كعرين الليث يجتنب

    His resolve protected the sanctity of sublime things

    So that its borders became like a lion's den avoided

  29. يصاحب الذئب فيها الشاة مؤتمناً

    على المغيب وإن أودى به السغب

    In it the wolf accompanies the lamb in safety

    Trusting the hidden one though hungry like a scepter

  30. فما يرى الروح فيها وهو مختطف

    ولا يرى المال منها وهو منتهب

    So the soul is not seen there while it is snatched away

    Nor money while it is being pillaged

  31. وهل يراع لها سرب وقد ضمنت

    بأمن من حل فيها البيض واليلب

    Does a flock feel secure there when it is guaranteed

    Safety where eggs and milk go undisturbed?

  32. وسطوة لو خلت من عفو مقتدر

    على العصاة لكاد الجو يلتهب

    And power, if it lacked forgiving restraint

    Upon the disobedient, the very air would burn

  33. ورحمة شكر الرحمن رأفتها

    يطفي بها الحلم ناراً شبها الغضب

    And mercy – the Merciful thanks its compassion

    With it, forbearance extinguishes fires akin to anger

  34. وراحة تهب الدنيا وما احتسب

    بها صنيعاً وما اعتدت بما تهب

    And comfort that makes life pleasant, though it never

    Considered its actions a favor or kept count of what it gives

  35. وسيرة سار عنه من حكايتها

    ذكر جميل تمنت مثله السحب

    And conduct such that who tells of it

    Spreads lovely renown wished for by the clouds

  36. أضاف من منة التشريف لي منناً

    لا ينهض الشكر منها بالذي يجب

    You have added to the honor of ennoblement favors

    Beyond what gratitude can adequately repay

  37. أجلها موقفي هذا بحيث أرى

    نور الهدى رفعت عن وجهه الحجب

    You have made this my greatest moment, so I see

    The light of guidance; the veils are lifted from its face

  38. حسبي بخدمتكم بين الورى حسباً

    إن ضل بي نسب أو قل بي حسب

    It is enough that serving you among all people brings me pride

    If ancestry fails me or lineage leaves me lowly

  39. فأنتم يا بني الزهراء لا انصرمت

    أيامكم كالحيا ماض ومرتقب

    For you, O family of Zahra, will never cease

    And your days are like the serpent – past and coming

  40. يعلو على الناس أدناها بخدمتكم

    وتستفاد بها العلياء والرتب

    The lowest of people is exalted by serving you

    And through it the noble and ranked gain advantage

  41. يا بن البني نداء ما لصاحبه

    قلب إلى غير حسن الظن ينقلب

    O son of sons, a call whose owner’s heart

    Does not turn to thinking ill of others

  42. قد قابلتك القوافي وهي واثقة

    أن لا يقول رجاها أعوز الطلب

    The rhymes have met you while confident

    That you who hoped for them will not lack requests

  43. كم موقف لك قد نادى نداك به

    يا مادحين لكف المادح السلب

    How many occasions have called out your name

    Saying, “O you who praise, leave praising bereft!”

  44. وأنت أكرم أن تدعى لمكرمة

    تقضي عليك بها العلياء والحسب

    But you are too generous to be called to a favor

    That would obligate you among the noble and dignified

  45. يهني الأهلة إن قابلت وافدها

    ومعقل الملك من سمر القنا أشب

    The new moon is delighted if it meets its visitor

    And the kingdom’s refuge is the evening conversation of stars

  46. ووجه دولتك الغراء مبتسم

    وثغرها واضح عذب اللمى شنب

    Your brilliant kingdom’s face smiles

    Its mouth clear, charming, curved and dimpled

  47. مضى جمادى وفي أحشائه حرق

    من الفراق الذي ما ذاقه رجب

    Jumada passed, and in its belly burns

    Separation's agony unknown to Rajab

  48. وربما حفزت شعبان داعية

    من المحبة يحدو عيسها الطرب

    Perhaps Shaban will spur you to visit

    Singing the songs of love that make gladness hop

  49. فاسعد بأيام ماضيها ومقبلها

    ما استحقبتها على أعجازها الحقب

    So bring joy to its passing days and the ones to come

    Worthy of high resolve and endless eras

  50. ممتعاً ببقاء الصالح الملك ال

    حاني إذا ما جفا ابنا أب حدب

    Continually pleased by the righteous king

    Whose affection remains when sons of fathers perish
