رَماني كَالعَدُوِّ يُريدُ قَتلي

فَغالَطَني وَقالَ أَنا الحَبيبُ

He treated me like an enemy wanting to kill me

He deceived me and said "I am the beloved"

وَأَنكَرَني فَعَرَّفَني إِلَيهِ

لَظى الأَنفاسِ وَالنَظَرُ المُريبُ

And denied me then made me known to him

With fiery breath and suspicious gaze

وَقالوا لِم أَطَعتَ وَكَيفَ أَعصي

أَميراً مِن رَعِيَّتِهِ القُلوبُ

And they said "Why did you obey and how could you disobey

A commander whom hearts are his subjects"
