قَيَّدتُ أَزمَةَ كُلَّ مُزنٍ رائِحِ
مُتَحَمِّلٍ عِبءَ المَواطِرِ دالِحِ
I held fast the reins of every journeying raincloud,
laden with the weight of downpours, lumbering heavily,
حَتّى يَشُقَّ عَلى العَقيقِ مَزادَهُ
مِن غابِقٍ لِرِياضِهِ أَو صابِحِ
until it opens its waterskin over al-ʿAqīq,
pouring from it an evening draught for its meadows—or a morning one.
