1. وَالعيسُ قَد نَشَّفَ مِنها السُرى

    صَفوَ العَريكاتِ وَنِقيَّ الأَجاج

    And from the pale camels, night travel had dried away

    the choicest of their humps and the pure essence of their briny moisture.

  2. لَم يَبقَ إِلّا مُضَغٌ لاكَها

    طولُ الطَوى وَاِستَرَطَتها الفِجاج

    Nothing remained but morsels, which had been chewed by

    prolonged hunger and swallowed by the broad passes.
