O resting-place of the two standards amid the sands of the protected pasture,

I am owed debts by your gazelle, al-Nawār.

She bought the heart cheaply, though precious were its treasures,

and the cheated one went away biting his fingertips.

Never will there follow me, on the way to forgetting him,

a heart the wide-eyed gazelles have struck.

One evening she came into view among the radiant women,

and among the arrows were eye-rims and eyes.

The chaste man is not chaste when his mind is mastered

by those glances, nor does the trustworthy remain trustworthy.

If your people tipped their spears

with the eyes of your herd, no one pierced would ever recover.
