1. سَأَبذُلُ دونَ العِزِّ أَكرَمَ مُهجَةٍ

    إِذا قامَتِ الحَربُ العَوانُ عَلى رِجلِ

    I will sacrifice the most precious life

    When war sets upon a man

  2. وَما ذاكَ أَنَّ النَفسَ غَيرُ نَفيسَةٍ

    وَلَكِن رَأَيتُ الجُبنَ ضَرباً مِنَ البُخلِ

    It is not that the soul is invaluable

    But I saw cowardice as a form of stinginess

  3. وَما المُكرِهونَ السَمهَرِيَّةَ في الطُلى

    بِأَشجَعَ مِمَّن يَكرَهُ المالَ في البَذلِ

    And those who force the Samharis for ransoms

    Are not braver than those who hate to spend money
