1. ما أَخطَأَتكَ سِهامُ الدَهرِ رامِيَةً

    فَما أُبالي مِنَ الدُنيا بِمَن تَقَعُ

    The arrows of fate did not miss their mark on you,

    So I care not for whom in this world they strike.

  2. الناسُ حَولَكَ غِربانٌ عَلى جِيَفٍ

    بُلَهٌ عَنِ المَجدِ إِن طاروا وَإِن وَقَعوا

    The people around you are vultures on a corpse,

    Foolish about glory, whether they soar or settle.

  3. فَما لَنا فيهِمُ إِن أَقبَلوا طَمَعٌ

    وَلا عَليهِم إِذا ما أَدبَروا جَزَعُ

    We have no hope in them, if they approach in greed,

    Nor do we despair, if they turn away in contempt.
