لا تَعذُلَنّي في السُكو

تِ فَرُبَّ قَولٍ لا يُقالُ

Do not reproach me in silence,

for there is much that cannot be said.

كَم صامِتٍ مُتَوَقِّعٍ

أَنّى يَعِنُّ لَهُ المَقالُ

How many reserved and hopeful

are ill-served by speech.

إِنَّ التَحَمُّلَ نُطفَةٌ

أَبَداً يُرَنِّقُها السُؤالُ

Truly, patience is an embryo

that questioning will always deform.

ما كُنتُ أَرغَبُ في الحَيا

ةِ وَلَيسَ لي عِزٌّ وَمالُ

I did not aspire to life

nor have I glory or wealth.

لي لَو عَلِمتُ إِلى ذُرى ال

عَلياءِ آمالٌ طِوالُ

If only I knew that to the heights

of the exalted my hopes could ascend.
