We have inherited fire from time immemorial for cities,

Handing it down since the dawn of time to our heirs.

We were the first everywhere with every undertaking,

While others scrambled vainly to catch up.

Among mankind we are warriors, valorous and resolute,

Lions, shining lights, and swooping eagles.
