كَيفَ صَبَّحتَ أَبا الغَمرِ بِها

صَعبَةً تَنزو نِزاءَ الجُندُبِ

How you have greeted Abu al-Ghamr about her

Difficult, descending with the gait of a wild ass

مَرَحَ الشَقراءِ في مِضمارِها

تَتَّقي الصَوتَ بِمَرٍّ عَجَبِ

The blond one raced in her track

Avoiding sound with wondrous bitterness

يَركَبُ الراكِبُ إِن جَشَّمَها

دَلَجَ اللَيلِ وَتُسبي المُستَبي

Whoever rides her, if she is stubborn with him

Will plunge into the night and capture the fugitive

بِنتُ كَرمٍ ظِئرُها الشَمسُ وَما

دَرَجَت في حِجرِ أُمٍ وَأَبِ

The daughter of generosity, whose companion is the sun, yet

She did not crawl into the lap of a mother or father

غُصِبَت ما أَثَّرَت في جِسمِها

قَدَمُ العِلجِ بِرَأسِ العَرَبي

She was robbed of what she engraved on her body
