أَناشِدٌ أَنتَ أَطلالاً بِذي القورِ
أَضَلَّها جَوَلانُ القَطرِ وَالمورِ
I recite poetry to you, O ruins of Dhi Qar
Lost by the meandering of fate and destiny
فَما أُحيلُ عَليهِم عِندَ نازِلَةٍ
لَكِن أُحيلُ عَلى ذَنبِ المَقاديرِ
So I do not blame them when misfortune comes
Rather I blame the guilt of predestiny
إِن تَقتَطِعهُ الأَعادي عَن مَذاهِبِهِ
فَرُبَّ أَبيَضَ مَغمودٍ لِمَنشورِ
If enemies sever it from its principles
Then many a sharp sword remains sheathed
