يقولون أسبابُ الحياة كثيرةٌ

فقلت وأسبابُ المنونِ كثيرُ

They say that life has many causes

So I said that death has many causes too

وما هذه الأيّامُ إلّا مصائدٌ

وأشراكُ مكروهٍ لنا وغُرورُ

And these days are nothing but traps

And snares of hated misfortune and delusions

يُسارُ بنا في كلّ يومٍ وليلةٍ

فكم ذا إلى ما لا نُريد نسيرُ

We are led astray each day and night

To how much of what we do not want shall we walk

وَما الدّهرُ إلّا فرحةٌ ثمّ تَرحةٌ

وَما النّاس إلّا مُطلقٌ وأسيرُ

And time is nothing but joy then sadness

And people are nothing but free and imprisoned
