1. أَنتَ في الدَهرِ لِلعَديلِ عَديمُ

    فَعَلَيكَ الصَلاةُ وَالتَسليمُ

    You are peerless in time

    Blessings and peace be upon you

  2. إِن يَكُن إِبراهيمُ كانَ فَتىً قب

    لُ فَأَنتَ الفَتى وَإِبراهيمُ

    If Abraham was a gallant lad afore

    You are the lad, and Abraham

  3. لَكَ في الناسِ سيرَةٌ حَسُنَت فَه

    يَ صِراطٌ مِن رَبِّهِم مُستَقيمُ

    You have a good way with people, which is

    A straight path from their Lord

  4. لَكَ دانَت خَوفاً فَراعِنَةُ الشا

    مِ فَهَل كانَ فيهِ موسى الكَليمُ

    The Pharaohs of Syria submitted to you in fear

    Was Moses the Converser amongst them?

  5. كُلَّ ما مَدَّةٍ تَمُدُّ بِأَقلا

    مِكَ يَحيا بِخَطِّها إِقليمُ

    Every region your writ runs for ages

    Lives by your command, however distant

  6. أَنتَ في الشَرعِ إِن شَرَعتَ فَقيهٌ

    أَنتَ في الرَأيِ إِن حَكَمتَ حَكيمُ

    You are the jurist if you lay down the law

    The sage if you arbitrate

  7. وَلَقَد أَخجَلَ الطَيالِسَ شُربو

    شُكَ تَاللَهِ إِنَّ ذا لَعَظيمُ

    Your drinking companions were shamed by Shurbush

    By God, this was no trivial thing

  8. لَيسَ يرضى إِلّا بِحُكمِكَ في كُل

    لِ مقامٍ تَقومُ فيهِ الخُصومُ

    None will be satisfied save by your ruling in any case

    Brought before you by the disputants

  9. لَو تَوَلَّيتَ الحُكمَ لَم يَكُ في العا

    لَمِ لا ظالِمٌ وَلا مَظلومُ

    If you were to assume authority

    No oppressor or oppressed would remain in the world

  10. رَضِيَ الناسُ عَنكَ في الدَهرِ وَالسل

    طانُ وَاللَهُ الواحِدُ القَيّومُ

    Mankind is content with you through the ages, and the Sultan

    And God, the One, the Eternal

  11. قُمتَ فيما ولّيتَ مُضطَلِعاً لا

    ضالِعاً لا وَلَست أَنتَ سَئومُ

    You acquitted well whatever you took on

    Not overreaching, nor easily wearied

  12. وَمَتى تَرضَ أَنتَ روحٌ نَسيمٌ

    وَلَدى السُخطِ أَنتَ ريحٌ سَمومُ

    When you are pleased, you are a gentle breeze

    When angered, a noxious gale

  13. أَنتَ رضوانُ وَالنَعيمُ مَتى تَر

    ضَ وَفي السُخطِ مالِكٌ وَالجَحيمُ

    You are divine content and bliss when pleased

    And Malik and hellfire when incensed

  14. أَنتَ قَرمٌ في الحَقِّ سَهلٌ وَفي البا

    طِلِ صَعبٌ تَفِرُّ مِنكَ القُرومُ

    You are easy going towards the right

    And harsh towards falsehood, which flees you

  15. زادَكَ اللَهُ في اِرتِفاعِكَ فيما

    أَنتَ فيهِ سَعادَةً لا تَريمُ

    May God increase the heights you have attained

    And may you never know humiliation

  16. لَيسَ إِلّا في كَسبِكَ الحَمدَ بِالمع

    روفِ يَوماً لَكَ الغَرامُ غَريمُ

    Only praise in good deeds is owed you

    While for you passion is ever a bondmaid

  17. لَم تَكُن تَزدَهيكَ بِالحُسنِ يَوماً

    ظَبيَةٌ لا وَلا يَشوقُكَ ريمُ

    No gazelle ever made you vain with her beauty

    Nor does the wild cow tempt you

  18. لا وَلا تَستَفِزُّكَ اِبنَةُ كَرَمٍ

    بِصِفاتٍ بِها تَتيهُ الكُرومُ

    No daughter of nobility provokes you

    With charms that leave men distraught

  19. قَهوَةٌ في الكُؤوسِ تَنفَحُ صِرفاً

    فَيَنالُ اِنتِشاقَها المَزكومُ

    Coffee in goblets exudes a draught

    That ravishes all who partake

  20. وَهيَ تَنفي الهُمومَ يا مَن لَدَيهِ

    هِمَمٌ تبهرُ الوَرى وَهُمومُ

    Dispelling cares for one beset with concerns

    That dazzle the sight, however lofty

  21. لَكَ ساقٍ حَزمٌ وَشاديكَ عَزمٌ

    وَالتُقى وَالكِتابُ فيك نَديمُ

    You have firm resolution and your supporter resolve

    And piety and Scripture are your boon friends

  22. وَلَدَيكَ الغداةَ مِن وَلَدَيك ال

    نُقلُ نِعمَ الثِمارُ وَالمَشمومُ

    While each morn gifts you from your sons

    Are a choice harvest and fruits preserved

  23. طَرِبٌ أَنتَ بِالصَهيلِ كَما يُط

    رِبُ شَرباً عيدانُهُم وَالبُمومُ

    You thrill to the neighing as do the studs

    And camels when groomed for their mares

  24. يَوم بيضُ الظُبا وَسُمرُ القنا حي

    نَ سَوادُ القَتامِ لَيلاً نجومُ

    The day the lynxes are white and the ostriches black

    Is when night’s darkness sports stars

  25. وَبِيُمناكَ السَيفُ مِن مُهَجِ الأع

    داءِ قانٍ وَالقِرنُ مِنكَ هَزيمُ

    Your sword parts skulls of foes

    As it thrusts and they flee before you scattered

  26. قالَ لَمّا رَآكَ لا أَظلِمُ النف

    سَ فَوَلّى كَما يُوَلّي الظَليمُ

    One said, on seeing you not to oppress myself

    And turned away as turns the shirker

  27. لَكَ فِتيانُ لَم يَزَل يا فَتى الفت

    يانِ عَبداً عَن وُدِّهِ لا يَخيمُ

    You have youths who have never ceased to be

    For you, chieftain of youths, devoted servants

  28. شُكرُهُ في المَنثورِ دُرٌّ نَثيرٌ

    مَدحُهُ في المَنظومِ دُرٌّ نَظيمُ

    Thanking you in prose is scattering pearls

    Praising you in verse is stringing them

  29. فَهوَ ما دُمتَ في الزَمانِ عَزيزٌ

    لَيسَ يَشكو مِن أَهلِهِ مَن يُضيمُ

    As long as you live he feels empowered

    None of your family has cause for complaint

  30. حَظُّهُ يا مُبارِزَ الدينِ أَضحى

    نائِماً دونَهُ وَأَنتَ عَليمُ

    His lot sleeps, O holy warrior

    While you stand by, knowing and wise

  31. وَهوَ يَرجو جودَ الإِلَهِ وَما خَي

    يَبَ حُسنَ الرَجاءِ فيهِ الكَريمُ

    He hopes for the Giving of God, who disappoints not

    The hopes of the generous

  32. إِنَّما أَنتَ بَينَنا مَلِكٌ أَر

    سَلَهُ لِلعِبادِ رَبٌّ كَريمُ

    You are, in truth, the king sent us by

    A Lord most beneficent

  33. عَجِبَت مِنكَ العُربُ وَالعُجمُ والإف

    رَنجُ وَالتُركُ كُلُّها وَالرومُ

    You astonished the Arabs, non-Arabs, Franks, Turks - all

    And the Greeks too

  34. قَد جَمَعتَ الخَيراتِ لِلجامِعِ المَع

    مورِ فَاِستَبشَرَ الفَقيرُ العَديمُ

    You gathered up virtues for the heir apparent

    Gladdening the poor and destitute

  35. وَغَدا مَعموراً بِهِ يا أَبا إِس

    حَقَ مِنكَ المَهدودُ وَالمَهدومُ

    Now made prosperous through you, Abu Ishaq

    The dispossessed and the deprived

  36. وَسَما نسرُهُ إِلى الأُفقِ يَدعُو

    لَكَ رَبَّ السَّماءِ وَهو يَحومُ

    His eagle circles the horizon invoking

    For you the Lord of Heaven brooding

  37. وَلِأَيّامِ دَولَةِ المَلِكِ العا

    دِلِ فيكَ التَفخيمُ وَالتَعظيمُ

    Exalting and extolling the days

    Of the just king’s rule

  38. مَلِكٌ مُلكُهُ سَما بِوَزيرٍ

    شَأنُهُ في الزَمانِ شَأنٌ عَظيمُ

    A king whose rule with a minister like you

    Is something sublime in this age

  39. فَلِهَذا يَدينُ كُلُّ وَزيرٍ

    وَكَذا في المُلوكِ خَطبٌ جَسيمُ

    For this every minister bows

    As do grave affairs among kings

  40. فَلَقَد حُصِّنَت بِهِ بَيضَةُ الإس

    لامِ في دَهرِنا وَصينَ الحَريمُ

    With you the Abode of Islam is garrisoned

    In our time, and the sanctuary inviolate

  41. وَلَها مِن مُبارِزِ الدينِ سَيفٌ

    لَيسَ يَنبو وَلَم تَشِنهُ ثُلومُ

    And Mubāriz ad-Dīnʾs sword protects it

    Rusted by neither wounds nor sharp blades

  42. تَتَمَنّى بَغدادُ سيرَتَهُ في

    ها وَمِصرٌ وَزَمزَمٌ وَالحَطيمُ

    Baghdad, Egypt, Zamzam and the Ancient House

    Crave the example he sets

  43. قَدَّماهُ لِنُصحِهِ وَلَقَد حُق

    قَ لِمَن كانَ مِثلَهُ التَقديمُ

    Offered in his counsel, and indeed

    The like of him deserves such a gift

  44. خَلَّدَ اللَهُ دَولَةَ المَلِكِ العا

    دِلِ ما زانَتِ السَماءَ النُجومُ

    May God eternize the just king’s rule

    While the heavens are adorned with stars
