1. مِن عُلا الصاحِبِ الطَويلِ الرِّكابِ

    طِرفُ طَرفِ الحَسودِ باكٍ كابي

    From the lofty companion with long strides

    The envious glance with tearful, downcast eyes

  2. مَن يَلُم في السَماحَةِ اِبنَ عَلِيٍّ

    لَيسَ يَلقى سِوى الجَوى بِالجَوابِ

    Who can blame the generosity of the son of Ali

    None can meet with aught but kindness in response

  3. رَدَّ إِنشاؤُهُ البَديعُ إِلى الكُت

    تابِ لِلعَجزِ سادَةَ الكُتّابِ

    His eloquence returned prose to the scribes

    As model for the tongues of eloquent writers

  4. فَهُمُ بِالقُشورِ يَأتونَ في الكُت

    بِ وَإِنشاؤُهُ لُبابُ اللُبابِ

    While they come with rinds, his is the pith of books

    His eloquence the essence of quintessence

  5. خُلقُهُ كَالجُلابِ إِن يَرضَ خلق

    يَجلُبُ السُخطَ سَطوُ سَوطِ عَذابِ

    His nature draws wrath should his manner displease

    Yet calms ire with the whip’s lashes of punishment

  6. وَمَتى ما يَحل مَحلّاً يُرَوِّض

    هُ بِجودٍ يَسُحُّ سَحَّ السَّحابِ

    And whene’er he takes residence, his bounty tames

    Smoothing over like the clouds’ drifting shower

  7. وَتَقومُ المُلوكُ بَينَ يَدَيهِ

    بَعدَ طولِ الحِجابِ كَالحُجّابِ

    Monarchs stand before him after long aloofness

    Like gatekeepers after the lifting of the veil

  8. إِنَّ وَصفَ الصَّفِيِّ يُعجِزُ مَن أك

    ثَرَ شَدَّ الأَطنابِ بِالإِطنابِ

    Describing the Chosen strains the most verbose

    As their pleonasm piles up pleonasm

  9. يا صَفِيَّ الدينِ الَّذي هُوَ في الحُس

    سابِ جَلَّ الباري السَريعُ الحِسابِ

    O Chosen of the Faith, by whom God swiftly reckons

    You tamed the far lands with your claws, O wolf

  10. أَنتَ قَلَّمتَ في الأَقاليمِ بِالأق

    لامِ أَظفارَ ظافِراتِ الذِّئابِ

    So every cur of underbite now has no fangs

    Naught but gums in its toothless maw

  11. فَغَدا كُلُّ أَعصَلَ النّابِ شَهمٌ

    لَيسَ في فيهِ غَيرُ نابِ نابي

    You sweetened the land of disagreeable neighbors

    Till its redolence wafted from district to district

  12. أَنتَ طَيَّبتَ أَرضَ جيرانِ جيرو

    نَ فَفاحَت بَينَ الملا بِالملابِ

    You raised the rain cloud high over it

    And set up justice’s scale and weight

  13. وَرَفَعتَ الماءَ السَماءَ عَلَيها

    وَوَضَعتَ الميزانَ بِالميزابِ

    It now has throngs of people and fresh water

    Ever renewed in bounteous outpouring

  14. فَلَها شاذَروانَ ناسٍ وَشاذر

    وانَ ماءٍ تَجَدَّدا بِاِنسِكابِ

    It is now the mosque for the five ritual prayers

    The folk behind the prayer-niche imam

  15. فَهيَ الآنَ مَسجِدُ الصَلَواتِ ال

    خَمسِ خَلفَ الإِمامِ بِالمِحرابِ

    All beseeching God within it to answer you

    With response to the answered supplicant

  16. كُلُّهُم في الصَلاةِ داعٍ لَكَ اللَ

    هَ دُعاءَ المُجيبِ بِالمُستَجابِ

    Because of you the gate of deliverance gleams

    Upon the world brighter than Paradise’s gate

  17. بِكَ بابُ البَريدِ يَجلو عَلى العا

    لم بابَ الفِردَوسِ في الأَبوابِ

    Once gloomy, you made it gleam anew

    Dispelling darkness with your strength

  18. كانَ مِن قَبلُ ذا اِسوِدادٍ وَقَد أَذ

    هَبتَ ذاكَ السَوادَ بِالإِذهابِ

    And praise of your fair name will endure

    Lasting through ages with enduring survival

  19. وَسَيَبقى عَلَيكَ حُسنُ ثَناءٍ

    مِنهُ باقي البَقاءِ في الأَحقابِ

    That, praise without rhyme or prosody

    From the utterance of the praiser and orator

  20. ذاكَ مَدحٌ مِن غَيرِ نَظمٍ وَنَثرٍ

    بِخِطابِ المُدّاحِ وَالخُطّابِ

    It was your resolve that built the mosque, O resolute one

    Your purpose hits the mark of what is right

  21. وَالمُصَلّى بَناهُ عَزمُكَ يا مَن

    عَزمُهُ صائِبٌ بِصَوبِ الصَّوابِ

    It's a fortress for Muslims, an impregnable redoubt

    While you are the lion of the thicket

  22. هُو حِصنٌ لِلمُسلِمينَ حَصينٌ

    وَهوَ غابٌ وَأَنتَ لَيثُ الغابِ

    Were the Two-Horned to see it, he would see

    A wondrous marvel making wonder cease

  23. لَو رَأى ذو القَرنَينِ ذاكَ رَأى شَي

    ئاً عُجاباً يَثني عَنِ الإِعجابِ

    And would view it as a Ya’juj Ma’juj barrier

    The frustrating, astounding, dazzling veil

  24. وَرَآهُ كَأَنَّهُ سَدُّ ياجو

    جَ وَماجوجَ المُعجِز النُقّابِ

    In our state, your justice has restored

    To decrepitude, the raven hair of youth

  25. نَحنُ في دَولَةٍ بعدلِكَ ردَّت

    بِسَناها لِلشيبِ سَنَّ الشِبابِ

    It transcends the lofty heights, and blood congealing

    Praises which laud you in the wine glass’s dregs

  26. فَاِرقَ فَوقَ العليا ودم ما علا تِب

    رَ الحميا في الكَأسِ درُّ الحَبابِ

    And celebrates each feast joyously gathered

    Uniting lover and beloved as one

  27. وَتَهنَّأ بِكُلِّ عيدٍ سَعيدٍ

    جامِعٍ لِلمُحِبِّ وَالأَحبابِ
