The lightning gleamed for him in the evening,
So it leaned when the aroma of Najd filled it.
It reminded him of nights in Hajir,
And the joys of youth turned to him happily.
In a time when its meadows boast
Of brocade and silk fragrantly.
Its flowers have shone radiantly since they bloomed
Laughing through their tears.
Its light gives light to the eyes,
And its intense perfume to the noses.
And for spring it brought out chemistry
Purely from its sleeves.
The green narcissus, its emerald,
Embraced the silver in the golden one.
And the birds, like monks in the monasteries
Of the branches, their voice stimulates seclusion.
Those are shades that the passionate blamed
For misguidance, and the lover blamed for affection.
O how much it teased the gazelles of al-Hima,
So each one went throwing and being hit!
And my liver from a beholder whose cheek
Is strokes in the dawn magically Babylonian!
Its shoulders complain to its sides
The complaint of the weak to the strong puller.
