الشَوقُ أَذكى النارَ في أَحشائي
وأَسالَ مِن عَينَيَّ عَينَي ماءِ
Longing kindled fire in my entrails
And made two springs of water flow from my eyes.
أعشارُ قَلبي قُطِّعَت فَتَقَطَّعَت
بِمُدى الأَعادي يَومَ عاشوراءِ
The tenths of my heart were cut to pieces, then fell apart
By the enemies' knives on the day of Ashura.
ضَحِكَ الأَعادي مِن تَشَتُّتِ شَملِنا
وَا خجلَتي مِن ضحكِهِم وَبُكائي
The enemies laughed at our scattered company.
Oh, my shame at their laughter and my weeping!
