1. You promised to return, yet you did not return.

    So the heart was made ill, yet you did not visit it.

  2. Return and visit, that your return may heal the one

    whom you sickened with estrangement, then scorched.

  3. You took the heart captive, yet you

    gave tears free rein on the day of parting.

  4. And let it suffice you that I am faithful to

    my love for you, after you proved faithless.

  5. The dream-apparition learned aversion from you;

    so you are among those from whom you learned.

  6. My tears tell tales, divulging what

    my heart has come to conceal in love.

  7. You killed me when I loved you.

    Yet a Muslim is not to be killed for this.
