Alas, would that I knew if I shall see myself
Dragging my skirts studiously in the gardens of Tathith
And if I shall ascend that towering height, a willing victim,
When the errant wind blows fiercely
And drink from it a draught
That makes the olden bond fresh again
As the smiles of maidens blossom
And the cheeks of time blush red
I answered the yearnings of passion by journeying to you eagerly,
Spurring my camel insistently
If the ropes of a man’s pledges grow slack
My pledge is too proud to be slack
