أَرَقنا لَدَيكُم مِياهَ الوُجوهِ
وَإِهراقُ ذاكَ مِنَ الحُرِّ مُر
We spilled before you the waters of our faces,
And for a freeborn man, spilling them is bitter.
وَبِالزَبَداني رَأَينا الخِلاطَ
خِلاطاً وَكَم دونَها بُكتُمُر
And at al-Zabadani we saw the mingling
As Khilat—and how many a Buktumur stood before it!
