Kānūn has frozen the wine in every goblet,

and quenched the ember in the brazier whenever it was kindled.

O paradise of Zabadani, you shine unveiled,

revealing a face of beauty whenever the face of Time scowls.

The snow upon you is cotton that the clouds gin,

and the air is its carder, the rainbow its bow.

Whenever the eye’s gaze roams through you in delight,

you draw it near to a countenance arrayed in winsome beauty.

The gazing eyes find a garden’s radiant blooms, and in

our hearts, release from care and joy.
