1. تُخادِعُنا الدُّنيا بِطيبِ نَسيمِها

    وَما هُوَ إِلّا الشّهدُ خالَطَهُ السُمُّ

    The world deludes us with its gentle breeze

    Yet it is but poisoned honey we seize

  2. وَتَلتَذُّ بِالأَنفاسِ جَهلاً نُفوسُنا

    وَما نَفَسٌ إِلّا وَفيهِ لَها كَلمُ

    Our souls revel foolishly with each breath

    Though every breath brings us closer to death
