    Ghuwayr, and lavish kisses upon its pebbles.

  6. There, youth was our intercessor,

    and our hair was black, pitch-dark,

  8. They shook for us ban-tree boughs that swayed

    atop massive, quivering mounds of sand.

  9. Their eyebrows fashion bows;

    how many arrows they have loosed with their glances!

  10. Whenever you scatter pearls of tears,

    they make strung pearls jealous with their mouths.

  11. For in their breath is the fragrance of musk,

    and in their saliva the taste of wine.

  12. When I demand goodly patience of my heart,

    it refuses and says to me, ‘No—and not yet!’
