Strike the flint of joy with the goblet.
Raise your glass to joy, drink and be gay,
And glimpse in it whatever pleasantries you wish.
Season it as you will with wit and wordplay,
Tawny wine—tell the one who shunned it:
But say to the man who denies himself mirth -
Hush! He who forsakes joy has come away with sorrow.
"By sorrow alone will you find the way?"
