1. O you two camel-drivers, urge on the pale camels,

    Bearing suns from among the maidens,

  2. Shooting piercing arrows,

    Dealing death, with wounds that cannot be healed.

  3. They made tears flow down the cheeks;

    The day they bade us farewell, those tears flowed as souls.

  4. Each slender-waisted maiden, like a straightened spear in stature,

    Her glance like a spearhead in fierceness and woe.

  5. Enchantresses who defeat whoever practices sorcery,

    As Moses thwarted Pharaoh's guile.

  6. O my drinking companion, rise and pour me the vine's daughter,

    Driving away humbled care and lingering grief.

  7. Do not heed whoever reproaches you over it, for pleasure

    Is nothing but drinking aged wine.

  8. And from it unveil a bride before the drinking companions;

    How lovely the wine, a bride within the glass!

  9. Never did she appear to the priest without his offering

    Glorification and hallowing to God.
