The sword of Altunba's glances
The sword of mulberry wood
has never recoiled from slaying one like me.
Cares not for killing the likes of me
أَحسَنُ مَن نَكَّسَ شُر
بوشاً وَمَن شَدَّ قَبا
The fairest of those who tilt a shur-
Better is he who withdraws from evil
bush cap, and of those who fasten a robe.
In shame, and he who holds fast his mantle
أُعيذُ ذا التُركِيَّ مِن
غاسِقِ لَيلٍ وَقبا
I seek protection for this Turk from
I seek refuge for him of Turkish descent
the darkness of a night that has fallen.
