أَمَوْلايَ فَتْحَ الدِّينِ دَعْوَةَ خَادِمٍ
يَرَى قَدْرَكَ العَالي يُجَلَّ عنِ المَدْحِ
My lord Fatḥ al-Dīn, this is a servant’s plea—
he deems your lofty station too exalted for praise.
لَهُ بُلْغَةٌ في الرِزْقِ أُغْلِقَ بَابُّها
فَيَممَّ بَابَ الفَتْحِ في طَلَبِ الفَتْحِ
He has but a meager livelihood, whose door has been shut,
so he made for the Gate of Fatḥ, seeking an opening.
