فَينظُرُني مِن الحُمَّى جَمِيعاً

بِجُملتِها وَقَدْ حَمِيَ الوَطِيسُ

So they all look at me with fever

With all its symptoms, and the fever has intensified

وَلي سَنَةٌ أَكابِدُها فَتَمضي

وَتَأْتي وَهْيَ سَاخِطَةٌ عَبُوسُ

And I have a year that I endure, then it passes

And it comes while it is angry and gloomy

إذا ما أَقْلَعَتْ عنّي بِرِيحٍ

طِيابٍ رَدَّها الرِّيحُ المَرِيسُ

When it leaves me with a

Good scent, the gentle wind returns it

فَقَدْ مَلَّ الطَّبِيبُ وَمَلَّ أَهْلي

وَمَلَّتْنيَ المُضَاجِعَةُ العَروسُ

So the doctor got bored, and my family got bored

And I got bored of lying in bed like a bride

وَقَالتْ راِهباً قد صِرْتَ قُلْ لي

فَقُلْتُ نَعَمْ وفي بيْتي حَبِيسُ

And she said you have become a monk, tell me

So I said yes, and I am imprisoned in my house
