1. يَاابنَ الخليليِّ لا عَدِمْنا

    مِنكَ جَميلاً على جَميلِ

    O son of al-Khalili, may we never be deprived

    of kindness from you, upon kindness.

  2. بَعَثْتَ في العِيد لي بِكَبْشٍ

    كأَنَّهُ في إهَابِ فِيلِ

    At Eid you sent me a ram

    as though it wore an elephant’s hide.

  3. فبيتُنا بَيْتُ لَحْمٍ

    لَمَّا اتّجهْنا إلى الخليلي

    So our house is Bayt Lahm—a house of meat—

    when we turned toward al-Khalili.
