هُمْ فَارَقُوكَ وَهذهِ الأَوطانُ
وَلِهُنَّ بَاقي الدَّمْعِ كانَ يُصَانُ
They left you and these lands,
While tears still flow for them.
فَاسْقِ المَعَاهِدَ وارْعَ خفَّهُمْ وإنْ
نَقَضُوا عُهودَكَ غَادِرينَ وَخَانوا
Keep your treaties though they broke theirs,
Abandoning you, betraying your trust.
لا تُدخَرُوا الأَجفانُ بَعدَ فرِاقِهمْ
فَلأَي مَعنًى تُذخَرُ الأَجفانُ
Do not spare your eyes from weeping after they left,
For what purpose are eyes spared from weeping?
وَلَو أنَّهُمْ رَفعوا البَراقِعَ لم يَكُنْ
لِيَضّلَّ تَحتَ دُجُنَّةٍ حَيرانُ
Had they but lifted the veils, one would not go astray,
Lost in darkness, confused.
