أَرسلْتُ عنّي النَّرْجِسَ الغَضَّ الذي
بِفُتُورهِ تَتَشبَّهُ الأَحداقُ
I sent the narcissus with languid eyes,
Whose drooping lids mimic drowsy gazes,
لِتَكونَ لي عَيْناً علَى مَن لَمْ يَجِدْ
شَوْقاً إليَّ وَمَن غدَا يَشتاقُ
To watch over one who finds in me no yearning,
And tell of one who now longs and craves.
وَبَنفسجٌ يَحكي بِزُرْقةِ لَوْنهِ
عَيناً فذاكَ بِنُورِها الورَّاقُ
The violet with its blue hinting of an eye
Speaks of one whose radiant sight gives joy.
