قَطائِفُ الحَشْوِ قَالتْ

لأُختِها في المَقالي

The stew's pieces

Said to their sister in the pan

كُلُّ الَوَرَى لي مُحِبٌّ

بِحَيثُ مَاليَ قَالِ

Everyone loves me

However I turn

فَجاوَبَتْها بِنُضْجٍ

وَحِدَّةٍ في المَقَالِ

She retorted tartly

And tersely in speech

الدَّسْتُ لي أَنَا وَحْدي

فَسَلِّمي ليَ حَالي

“For me alone is the friendship

So tend to your state

وإنْ تَحلَّى بِنا الصَّدْ

رُحَلْيَ ذاتِ الحِجَالِ

And if we're adorned with chests

Depart, O laden ones

أَينَ اللُّجينُ مِن التِّب

رِ قِيمةً عِندَ حَالِ

Where's crystal from clay

In value, now tell"
