ما إِن رأينا نرجساً مُضْعَفاً

أكثرَ من ذا قطُّ في مجلسِ

We've never seen a doubled narcissus

More abundant than this in any session

بل ما رأينا مثله نرجساً

أحسنَ في الأعينِ والأنفُس

Nor have we seen the like of this narcissus

Fairer in eyes or spirits

بيضٌ وصفرٌ فوق خضرٍ من ال

أغصانِ تحكي خُضرَة السُّندس

White and yellow above green

Branches that describe the greenness of silk

مُقمِرَةٌ مشمسةٌ بيننا

يا عجباً للمقمرِ المشمس

Mooned and sunned amongst us

What a wonder, the mooned sun

مثل اختلاطِ الماءِ بالراح في

أوَّل ما تُمزَجُ في الأكؤس

Like the mixing of water and wine when

First blended in goblets
