يا شِبلُ دع ذكرَ ما سَلَفا

من مُرْدَةٍ محَّ رسمُها وعفا

O cub, leave the mention of what is past

Of stubbornness, its form is erased and forgiven

عليك بالذلِّ والخضوع ولا

تَمِلْ إلى التيهِ وارفضِ الصَّلَفا

Submit to humiliation and humility, and do not

Incline towards wandering and refuse obstinacy

أُصيبَ خدَّاك باحمرارهما

وارتديا بالسَّوادِ والتحفا

Your cheeks were struck with redness

And dressed in blackness and wraps

جارت على وجهك الخطوبُ وكم

مَرَّتْ بوجهٍ فصيَّرَتْهُ قَفا

Misfortunes passed over your face, and how much

Passed over a face, making it rugged
