وحيدٌ بيانسَ مُستانِسُ

فلله أُنْسُك يا يانسُ

A lone pianist, happy

For God is your companion, O Janis

شهابُ ذكاءٍ يفوقُ الشهابَ

وفارسُ فهمٍ هو الفارس

A shooting star of intelligence that surpasses meteors

And a knight of understanding, he is the knight

مُعَرَّى الخلائق مما يسوءُ

ومن كلِّ ما سرّني لابِس

Bare of creations from what is bad

And wearing everything that delighted me

وَمَنْ لكَ بالأعجميِّ الفصيح

كما ضَرَّمَ القبسَ القابس

And who is eloquent like you in Arabic

As the burning coal grabbed the kindling

إذا هو أنْشَدَ في مجلسٍ

تطاولَ عُجْباً به الجالس

When he recited in a gathering

Amazement at him grew in those seated

خفيفُ النسيم خفاتينُه

يميسُ بها غُصُنٌ مائس

Light breeze, his steps gentle

A bending branch sways with it

غزالٌ جَرَيتُ إلى حُبِّهِ

فما ليَ عن حُبِّهِ حابسُ

A gazelle I raced to love

And I have no resistance to his love

ومُحتَرسٌ من عيونِ الظنونِ

هواهُ عليَّ له حارس

And guarded from the eyes of suspicions

His love protects me for him

سريعٌ تنبُّهُهُ للعفافِ

وعن كلِّ ما ريبةٍ ناعس

Quick to wake for chastity

And sleeping from any doubt
