ذِكرُ يومِ الحُسَيْنِ بِالطَّفِّ أودَى

بَصِماخي فلم يَدَعْ لي صِماخا

The memory of Hussein's day at Al-Taff has ruined me

It left no fortitude for me

مُتبعاتٌ نِساؤُهُ النَّوْحَ نَوْحاً

رافِعاتٌ إِثْرَ الصُّراخِ صُرَاخا

Its women's lamentations trailing lamentably

Their cries rising crying
