صرفُ النوى ليس بمعذورِ

وذنبُها ليس بمغفورِ

The turning of the stars is not excused,

And their sin is not forgiven.

إن تصبح المهجة مأسورةً

فإِن دمعي غيرُ مأسور

If the inner self becomes imprisoned,

Then my tears are not imprisoned.

قَمَرْتَني يا دهرُ عيشي الذي

مقمورُهُ أحسنُ مقمورِ

You have mooned me, oh fate, my life that

Its new moon is better than the full moon.

من مبلغٌ نورَ العيونِ الذي

مذ غاب غيّبن عن النور

Who can convey the light of the eyes that

Since it has gone, it has vanished from the light.

سلامَ موتورِ الكرى لم يكنْ

كراهُ من قبل بموتور

The greetings of the reluctantly dead were never

Hated before being reluctantly.

مَيْتٌ لو أَن الصورَ في أذنه

ما أيقظته نفخةُ الصور

Dead, even if the images in his ear

The blow of the horn did not wake him up.

اعْلَمْ أبا أيوبَ يا ساترَ ال

فضل الذي ليس بمستور

Know, oh covering one, that excellence

Which is not covered.

أنيَ مَيْتُ الضرِّ مقبورُهُ

إن كان ميتٌ غيرَ مقبور

That I am dead from harm, buried,

If a dead is not buried.

لا جاز طول العمر إلا أخو

قلي بطول الشوق معمور

Long life would not be possible except, my brother

My longing is populated with the length of longing.

أدعوك والسلوة محظورة

عنّي وشوقي غيرُ مَحْظُور

I call you, and comfort is denied

From me while my longing is not denied.
