  1. Does he intoxicate us with drunken eyelids?

    And are we blamed for wheeling with the houbara bustards?

  2. A fawn has captured the gazelles with the languor of his glance;

    The hearts of all creation are captives in his hand.

  3. He follows the Christian faith—and, in my eyes,

    Is worthy indeed of following the Christian faith.

  4. I say to him who resembles the Virgin in beauty:

    Why have you shunned the creed of maidens?

  5. For I am not the only one jealous over you—but

    All the worlds, along with me, are jealous.
