1. The tongue of lofty honor speaks through your own,

    and morning’s face shines by the light of your judgment.

  2. How many a gate to glory your two hands have opened,

    though its lock stays shut to everyone but you.

  3. May you go on rising through noble deeds to a height

    before which Time lowers its gaze and bows its head.

  4. And blessings on a newborn! Good fortune has come advancing,

    trotting to you with glad tidings of him, then racing on.

  5. You planted his father before him, and now have planted him;

    the planting of noble virtues bears fruit, its bough in leaf.

  6. You took a good omen when you named him Muzaffar—“Victorious”—

    knowing that the omen in him would come true.

  7. Never have I seen the likes of those faces, robed

    in khalūq perfume, as though Time itself were anointed with it;

  8. nor the like of those retainers, when he appeared among them,

    like a full moon risen amid glittering stars.

  9. Nor have I seen the like of the happiness that met him,

    with which a blessed, favoring Fortune gifted you.
