كُلُّ أغانيِّ فُرَيجٍ غَلطْ
وجوهرُ الجوهرِ منه سَقَطْ
Every one of Furayj’s songs is wrong;
and the jewel of jewels has fallen away from him.
أضحكنا في وقتٍ غنَّى لنا
كأنّهُ في وقتِ غنَّى ضرط
He made us laugh when he sang to us,
as though, when he sang, he farted.
فقلْ له حسبك من نخوةٍ
لن تُذْهِبَ النخوةُ برْدَ النَّبَط
So tell him: Enough of your swagger;
swagger will never thaw Nabataean coldness.
لستَ لعمري فَرَجاً كاملاً
وإِنما أنتَ فُرَيْجٌ فَقَط
By my life, you are no full-fledged Faraj;
you are merely little Furayj—nothing more.
