كأسٌ من الإبريز
في ريح مرماحوزِ
A cup of refined gold
in the breeze of Marmāḥūz;
باكرتها بأميرٍ
على القلوب عزيز
I sought it at dawn with a prince,
noble, astride a young she-camel,
مطرّز الوجه بالحُسْ
نِ أَحْسَنَ التطريز
his face embroidered with beau—
—ty, in the finest embroidery.
ما زال يجمعُ في المز
جِ بين كوبٍ وكوز
He kept bringing together in the blend—
—ing, between goblet and jug,
ماءٌ ونارٌ فقلْ في ال
ميلادِ والنوروز
water and fire—then speak of Christ—
—mas and Nowruz—
حتى تركنا قميصَ الد
جى بغيرِ دُروز
until we left the shirt of dark—
—ness without a seam.
