A bough, with the sun of day upon its crown,
struts in honey-colored garb and the Christian girdle.
Sweet is his cheek’s first down; likewise, a colt’s cheek does not
delight the beholder without a bridle.
O you—when you do not smile, neither do
the daisy blossoms in a pool of wine.
Would you frighten one enthralled by you with sins?
Who could burden one enthralled by you with sins?
Since the people of Hell said that you were one of them,
out of my love for you, I came to love the people of Hell.
