أعزرْ عليَّ بأن أزورَكَ يا أخي

في منزلٍ ناءٍ عن الزوَّارِ

How grievous it is for me to visit you, my brother,

in a dwelling far removed from visitors.

خَلَّيتَ دُورك واتساعَ فضائها

مستبدلاً منها بأضيق دار

You left your homes and all their spacious breadth,

exchanging them for the narrowest abode.

فلئنْ حَمَاني من لقائِكَ ما حمى

فترحُّمي يلقاكَ واستغفارِي

Though whatever bars me from meeting you has barred me,

my prayers for mercy will meet you, and my pleas for forgiveness.
