الجزعُ والياقوتُ والدرُّ
عيناكَ والخدّانِ والثغرُ
Eyes like carnelian and rubies gleam,
Cheeks like roses, lips like wine.
يا رشأً تسحرُ ألحاظُهُ
وهنَّ لا يدرينَ ما السحرُ
Enchanting vision, bewitching mien,
Casting spells those eyes of thine.
ألشمسُ إِنْ أقْبَلْتَ في حيرةٍ
منك وإِن أدبرتَ فالبدر
If the sun turns back confused by you,
The moon's golden orb cannot compare.
إن ترني نِضْواً براني الهوى
لا الوصلُ يُسليني ولا الهجر
Love may show me joy or sorrow.
Parting nor union soothes despair.
فهكذا العشّاقُ أرواحُهُمْ
مَرْضَى وألوانُهُمُ صُفْر
Thus all lovers in their sadness,
Sick at heart, their faces wan.
