قالوا لنا نخلةٌ وقد طَلَعَتْ

نَخْلَتُنا فاصطبرْ لطلعتها

They said to us, "It is a palm tree that has sprouted

Our palm tree, so be patient for its sprouting

حتى إذا صار طَلْعُها بَلَحاً

قالوا تَوَقَّعْ بلوغَ بُسْرتها

Until its sprouts become dates

They said, "Anticipate the ripening of its fruits"

حتى إذا بُسْرها غدا رُطَباً

فازوا بأعذاقها برمّتها

Until its fruits ripen and become succulent

They prevailed and took all of its bunches

عدمتها نخلةً كنخلةِ عر

قوبٍ ومن قصةٍ كقصَّتِها

I deemed it a palm tree like an ‘Ar tree

Of strong trunk and story like its story
